Hi, I am looking at buying a used Westendorf WL-40 loader for my Massey Ferguson 1100. If someone is familiar with this loader please explain how this drive on/off loader latches in place. I see that the new Westendorf loaders have a latch that prevents it from moving forward during back dragging for example, but the WL-40 is an older model and does not have the same latching mechanism. Thanks for your insight!

it should have a hook with an eye big enough to put your finger in it in the center

Mine is on a 706 and has a single latch on the front bracket that bolts to the tractor. It is a older unit. The frame of the loader rolls along the front rollers as you tilt it back to line up with the back mounts. Once it slides into the back mounts the front of the frame cradles in the front bracket and that single latch holds the whole works on the tractor. A pin keeps it from coming unlatched. I can post some pictures if that will help you.

Might be best to get a new latch from Westendorf. It shouldn't cost all that much and it is designed for the job. You don't want to lose the loader when you are dragging the bucket backward.

Here's the photos. Note my loader is blocked forward about 4' to fit the tractor, so some things might not line up exactly like yours. I had to weld a new latch dog on my frame to accommodate the difference, but the concept is the same.

Very interesting. This loader does not have anything like that. In fact the front bracket (receiver) has a single flange that spans the entire width with just a single 1/2' diameter hole, rather than the split flange with two smaller holes each. Mine seems to more like a WL-42 front mount it seems. See the attached photo.

Your brackets are black. I have never seen a black WL 40. I have seen only newer loaders like the WL42, TA21 era in black.
